Sarah H. Kagan PhD, RN Sarah H. Kagan is the Lucy Walker Honorary Term Professor of Gerontological Nursing at Penn and Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Joan Karnell Supportive Care Program for the Abramson Cancer Center at the Pennsylvania Hospital. She is currently holds several international appointments in Nursing and in Public Health including: Visiting Professor at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University College Dublin; Honorary Professor at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh; Adjunct Professor at the American University of Armenia; and Honorary Professor in Public Health and in Nursing at the University of Hong Kong. All of these appointments, like her primary appointments at the University of Pennsylvania entail analysis and synthesis of considerations for aged populations, health and well-being in later life, and improving clinical practice in health and social care to the benefit of older people and their families. Professor Kagan is Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Older People Nursing http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1111/(ISSN)1748-3743. She serves on the Editorial Boards of other three journals – Cancer Nursing, Geriatric Nursing, and Research in Gerontological Nursing. Professor Kagan’s education and training includes a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Science from the University of Chicago, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rush University, and a Master’s Degree in Gerontological Nursing and a PhD from the University of California San Francisco. Since arriving at the University of Pennsylvania over two decades ago, Professor Kagan has focused her scholarship in undergraduate nursing education, care of older people, and qualitative research. She currently directs the University of Pennsylvania Benjamin Franklin Scholars in Nursing Program and two clinically-based undergraduate international exchange programs in nursing – one in the United Kingdom and one in Australia. In addition, Professor Kagan teaches short-term study abroad for the University of Pennsylvania in partnership with the University of Hong Kong. Professor Kagan maintains an active program of clinical scholarship and practice in gero-oncology, which serves as a wellspring for her clinical pedagogy and anchors her understanding of the clinician-patient relationship as well as provision nursing care. Commentators acknowledge Professor Kagan’s nationally and internationally as innovative, sophisticated, and clinically relevant. She is a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and the American Academy of Nursing. Among the awards she has received for her practice, research, and teaching are the Sigma Theta Tau International Founders Award for Excellence in Nursing Practice and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Fellowship. Professor Kagan received an Honorary Doctorate of Science from Oxford Brookes University in June 2013. |

Andrew Hertler, MD Andrew Hertler, MD, FACP, is Chief Medical Officer for New Century Health in Brea, CA. With over 25 years of experience, he is a nationally recognized leader in medical oncology clinical and quality practice management. Dr Hertler previously acted as Administrative Medical Director for Physician Practices at Maine General Medical Center and Medical Director of the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care in Augusta, ME. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine from University of Michigan affiliated hospitals and fellowship in Medical Oncology/Hematology from Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. Dr Hertler has authored several peer-reviewed articles that have been published in journals such as Bone Marrow Transplantation, Journal of Clinical Oncology, International Journal of Cancer, and Cancer Drug Delivery. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Clinical Practice, Quality of Care, and Payment Reform Committees as well as serves on the Board of Directors for the Northern New England Clinical Oncology Society. |

Tricia Strusowski, RN, MS
Manager, Oncology Solutions LLC With over 30 years of experience in the Oncology field, Mrs. Strusowski has worked in a variety of roles including an oncology nurse, nurse manager, case management, and most recently a clinical director overseeing a multitude of departments, including chemotherapy infusion, rehabilitation program, multidisciplinary disease site centers, thoracic surgery, palliative care, oncology medical home program, wellness programs and bone marrow coordinators and accreditation program. Her passion is in patient and family centered care in the oncology landscape and in conjunction with serving on multiple advisory boards, she implemented 15 multidisciplinary cancer centers including breast, lung, head and neck, pancreatic and various other tumor site specific teams. Mrs. Strusowski puts this rich work history to practice in consulting on the strategic development and implementation of Nurse Navigation programs within private practices, hospitals, and health systems across the country. She has published and presented nationally. She chairs the Academy of Oncology Nurse and Patient Navigators Navigation Metrics Subcommittee, co-chairs the ACS National Navigation Roundtable Evidence Based Promising Practice Committee and participated on the Biden Cancer Initiative for Patient Navigation. |

Torie Lavoie
Financial Advocate Supervisor New England Cancer Specialists Born and raised in Maine, Torie Lavoie is the Financial Advocate Manager at New England Cancer Specialists. After spending years in sales, medical billing and collections, Torie joined the team at New England Cancer Specialists almost eight years ago as a Financial Advocate. Oncology Advocacy has become a great passion of Torie's and she enjoys helping patients throughout their journey. She believes it is imperative to help lessen financial burden for patients and help gain access to care, one patient at a time. After helping her 23 year old son fight Leukemia in 2018, she was able to see the importance of Financial Advocacy from the family standpoint and the difference it makes. This has only made her passion grow all the more. Torie is also a Board member for Foundation4Love, a non-profit organization that gives back to patients fighting cancer and is eager to help many more patients during their journey, one patient at a time. Torie is an active member of the NNECOS NAHPAC (Nursing and Allied Health Professional Advisory Committee). |

Nicole Messier, BSN, RN, OCN, ONN-CG University of Vermont Medical Center Nicole is the Clinical Program Coordinator/Nurse Navigator for the Upper and Lower Gastrointestinal (GI) and Genitourinary (GU) Multidisciplinary Care Cancer Clinics at The University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, VT. Nicole graduated from the University of Vermont in 1998 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing and since then has worked as an oncology nurse at The University of Vermont Medical Center in a variety of roles, including staff nurse on the in-patient oncology unit and as a primary nurse in the Department of Surgical Oncology. She has been in her current role as the Clinical Program Coordinator/Nurse Navigator of the GI Multidisciplinary Care Cancer Clinic since 2007 and for the GU Multidisciplinary Care Cancer Clinic since 2012. Nicole obtained certification as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) in 2015 and as an Oncology Nurse Navigator-Certified Generalist (ONN-CG) in 2016. She has previously served as a Leadership Council member of the Academy of Oncology Nurse Navigators (AONN) and participated on the AONN+ Evidence Into Practice Standardized Navigation Metrics Project Team. Nicole currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Northern New England Clinical Oncology Society (NNECOS) and serves as co-chair for the Nursing & Allied Health Professional Advisory Committee (NAHPAC) of NNECOS. In addition to speaking at national conferences, Nicole has contributed to the Cancer Site-Specific Navigation chapter in the Oncology Nursing Society's 2014 publication, Oncology Nurse Navigation: Delivering Patient-Centered Care Across the Continuum Oncology, as well as a contributor to the companion publication by ONS, Oncology Nurse Navigation Case Studies, in 2017. Nicole was a nominee for Cure Magazine’s 2013 Extraordinary Healers Award for Oncology Nursing. |
