The scheduled 27.4 percent cut for Medicare physician payments could be averted until at least March after the Senate agreed on Saturday to a two-month patch of the Sustainable Growth Rate. The prospects of a larger deal are questionable as the parties remain gridlocked over the offsets that will pay for a longer-term solution.
