An important message from ASCO about IV fluid shortages

ASCO has become aware that some of its members are continuing to encounter intravenous fluid shortages. Information relating to the IV fluid shortage has been posted to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) web site at http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/DrugShortages/ucm314743.htm#sodiumch.

This site contains current information on availability and contains manufacturer contact information. The FDA indicates on its website which of the three manufacturers may have supply available. The FDA noted that manufacturers are continuing to allocate to customers to more evenly distribute the supply so it is possible that hospitals and other centers may see reductions in their orders; however, entities should still continue to receive supply.

If you are experiencing difficulty obtaining these products, please send an email message to publicpolicy@asco.org so ASCO can work with the FDA to address this problem.
