FAX YOUR JK TRANSITION QUESTIONS TO NGS!

During Thursday's town hall teleconference for oncologists/hematologists, National Government Services (NGS) announced the availability of a fax line for questions to be passed directly to the medical directors for consideration and response. Participants on the call were encouraged to notify colleagues of the availability of this opportunity to submit questions to the medical directors directly, in an effort to facilitate a smooth transition. This line is open now through August 10th. Providers are asked to provide complete contact information on their fax to allow for return comment.

(open through August 10th)

ORAL ANTIEMETIC LCD CONCERNS

In response to the question about the NGS Local Coverage Determination (LCD) regarding IV antiemetics (L25820), Drs. Clark and Haug spoke to a misunderstood intent of language in the existing LCD. Both confirmed that
a mandatory oral fail first policy with no clinical discretion is not the intent; the most clinically appropriate course of treatment is to be decided by the physician, which is the current practice in Northern New England (J14). A specific sentence in the existing NGS LCD was identified as in need of language revision to clarify. While the mechanics may take a little time to implement, there is no waiting period while the language is revised to match the intent expressed by both Drs. Clark and Haug.
